Lignin is second main basic part of wood after cellulose (from 19 up to 28 % depending on the breed). It is an amorphous substance of dark brown colour.
Lignin represents a complex mixture consisting from lignin in essence, vegetative cell, nonhydrolyzed cellulose (polysaccharides), substances of lignogumin complex with inclusion pitches which have been not washed after monosaccharide hydrolysis, mineral and organic acids, reducing substances, ashy elements, and also humidity (up to 70 %). The ashes is a multicomponent mixture of oxides of silicon, calcium, iron, aluminium, magnesium, manganese. The mineral part of lignin consists on 50-70 of % from silicon oxide. Ash level of sour lignin is within the limits of 6 - 25 % and depends on conditions and terms of its storage.
The physical characteristics of lignin are close to those of peat. Owing to the increased contents of carbon (59-67 %), insignificant contents carboxyl groups the power value of lignin hydrolytic on an output of flying combustible components is much higher, than that of the wood. The content of flying substances in combustible lignin weight makes 65-68 %. The content of combustible substances in lignin hydrolytic makes 58-75 %. Oozing out while lignin heating, they promote fuel ignition acceleration of a part of fuel and its burning out.
The more carbon is in element structure of fuel, the higher its calorific value. As lignin is richer in carbons (62-70 %), than the cellulose and wood (< 50 %), its calorific value is higher. Maximum calorific value of sour lignin on dry weight Qñâ = 5500-6250 large calorie/kg, and on combustible Qãâ = 5750-6750 large calorie/kg. Lowest calorific value at humidity 65 % is within the limits of 1350-1650 large calorie /kg.
Technical lignin is submitted by particles. Their the size is from several centimeters up to 1 micron and less. Lignin bulk density makes 300 - 400 kg / ì3.

Sour lignin structure:
carbon- 19,5%; sulfur- 0,113%;
hydrogen- 1,92%; ashes- 1,84%;
oxygen and nitrogen- 11,63%; moisture- 65%.
Calorific value Qí = 1350 large calorie / kg.
Field of application: is used as fuel in boiler-rooms, for fuel briquettes manufacture, as a material improving structure of soil, while getting lignodung and lignomanures, as the burning out additive in fire-resistant products manufacture, and also as an initial material for getting gas generator fuel and other purposes.

The qualitative characteristics:
Dark brown colour mass with a specific smell;
Mass share of moisture no more than 65 %;
Mass share of free acids no more than 0,01 %;
Mass share of ashes in recalculation on dry substance no more than 25 %.
